The Embassy celebrated the 74th Republic Day of India in Sao Tome with lot of enthusiasm and gaiety on the 26th of January 2023.
Unfurling of Flag (Embassy Premises):
Ambassador unfurled the National Flag and read out the Address of the President of India. The event was attended by over 40 persons, which included the small Indian community, important local officials, members of the media, academics and students from the universities and other friends of India. Important dignitaries present were the Directors from the Ministries of Education, Foreign Affairs and Youth Affairs and Sports.
Republic Day Reception (Hotel Pria, Sao Tome)
Ambassador hosted a reception on occasion of 74th Republic Day, which was attended by about 80 persons. The Foreign Minister of Sao Tome, Mr. Alberto Pariera was the Chief Guest. The Justice Minister, Minister for Education, Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Chief of Army Staff, Ambassadors from resident embassies, UNDP Resident Head, Heads of International organizations like WHO, FAO and UNICEF, media and the Indian community attended.
Ambassador Raghu Gururaj spoke about India's commitment on climate change, inclusive global economic growth, and digitization as among its priorities under its presidency of G20.
Speaking on the occasion, Foreign Minister of Sao Tome Alberto Pereira emphasized that “the Republic of India assumed the presidency of the G-20, placing the human being at the center of its priorities".
